Flat 4

That’s my apartment flat number here in Nottingham. Initially I was just going to describe the apartment, then I figured I could post some pictures. Instead, have a video tour (it sounds like I’m complaining, but really it’s pretty cool

  1. I am soooo jealous!

BTW, you usually wash the comforter cover (called a “duvet” by the way–dooovay). Making the bed is so much easier! Just flick, and it’s done! They don’t work well in Texas though, too hot!

They had the same thing in DK when I was there (and the same toilets, which do seem to work so much better, with less water than here!).

Have much fun, we miss you!

  2. I’m in shock at the tiny washer and dryer! Do they expect you to wash everyday? ‘Cause if you went with once a week, with that itty bitty thing you’d have to dedicate all of Saturday to laundry.

As for the bathroom–cool flushing, gotta agree. And I find it freakish that you have a half door for the tub. They install half doors? Really? Maybe you can put a curtain on the uncovered section of the shower.

    Anyway, cool mini-home.

  3. W O W what a culture shock! Guess you can wash one pair of socks at a time - that is the smallest washer I’ve ever seen. No outlets in the kitchen - guess I would be looking for a Wal-Mart and extension cords - Gotta have my Java

Have fun - we miss ya

  4. Hey -

    Nice video tour - thanks!

All that stuff is normal size - it’s just that you grew up in Texas where everything is bigger ;-) he he

    Miss you!

  5. wow - your time in UK flew by!! Just thinking of you and revisited the tour - it made me laugh again. miss ya - and looking forward to seeing you at Christmas time!

  6. As a follow-up to some of your questions and comments…

    * duvets are pronounced “doovee” over here rather than “doo-vay”. Apparently “doo-vay” is really posh.

    * yes, the toilets work much better than the ones in the states.

    * I had to do about 4 loads of laundry per week with that tiny washer/dryer, and the only way I could get it to do a cold wash was to take a really long shower and use up all the hot water first!! One of the hot loads (coldest setting, but still hot) bled my red and white FC Dallas jerseys into red and pink. The jersey’s been through a hundred loads in its life withought bleeding! I was pissed.

    * I got used to the shower door only being a half-door, but it did get the floor soaking wet every shower. I want to know what half-wit came up with that idea.

    * I eventually found the electric sockets in the kitchen. If you watch the video and pause it at 1:37, that little gray cirlcle pops out and lifts up, making a little tower with 2 sockets on it.

    * They don’t have Wal-Mart, but they do have Sainsburys. It’s a giant supermarket, but it’s the closest thing I could find to Wal-Mart. They don’t have clothes, but the rest is pretty much the same.

    * I ended up really liking my flat, so I feel a little bad about complaining at first. However, it doesn’t even come close to comparing to my townhome back in Texas, and I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed!!
